Good quality for a free Kindle book...you don't have to be an oceanographer to enjoy it.The first chapter pulled in my attention. R. M. Ballantyne described the "wondrous ocean" and hinted at the "secrets of the sea". He then launched into an informative chapter that included topics such as saltwater and freshwater and the composition of the sea.
The author mentions many interesting facts, for example the combination of melting and becoming porous causes icebergs to flip over in a "terrible crash". Some people even hear and report these crashes.
This book includes the history of the ocean and opinions of the ancient civilizations, risks involved at or near the subject, and patterns and identification systems that would be useful to know as a sailor.
One of my favorite things about this book was the anecdotes that R. M. Ballantyne would insert into his story, experiences concerning the topic he was discussing.
If any of this sounds interesting, The Ocean and its Wonders is for you.

The Ocean and its Wonders R M Ballantyne 9781491008454 Books Reviews
Love this book.
The book was informative but the information dated to the 1850s.
Very satisfied
It's an amazing book about ocean's wonders. Beautifully written but also filled with scientific facts! I would like to read more about some amazing things in the ocean!
A delightful way to learn of our world while giving credit where credit is due. This was just one of Ballantyne's works.
My son was excited to see this was based in creation. Praise God for that. It is so hard to find books on thd creator and science combined.
