A friend recommended this book. I've never read this author before and didn't really know what to expect. It's a Regency but set outside of London and the ton. We have the h, who has essentially taken over her cit father's business interests and who works. She is 23 and decided against marriage after one disastrous, nearly arranged marriage with the H six years before. The H is now the Earl as his father died a few months before this book begins. The h had been very negatively affected by what he had said about her when he rejected the arranged marriage his father tried to push on him. The h was humiliated and the H then went off and joined the army for 6 years. When he returns he finds his estate neglected and that the h owns a valuable strip of land that her father seems to gave gained 'illegally' from his father. This story takes place over a number of months and the 2 main characters bump into and clash often. Every woman in the neighbourhood either wants to marry the eligible Earl or throw their unmarried daughters at him. The h wants to retain her independence and never marry. The H feels that the h isn't good marriage material for him as she is a hoyden and doesn't act correctly. There is however the feeling that their relationship is growing and they slowly come to respect one another. It's a pleasant journey to a clean hea.Product details

I'm really a romance nut, so most of these books in the romance category are fun and enjoyable.
Strong independent woman meets her match in a charming Earl. Good story and character development, was a fun read. Looking forward to more books from this author.
